All MakerBiz meetings and mailing list discussions are covered under frieNDA.

It's an agreement between members of our community that all discussions are to be considered confidential.  No paperwork, just trust, protects ideas from being stolen.

Please ask before blogging, disclosing to third parties, or appropriating ideas someone else discloses at MakerBiz meeting or on the mailing list.

Here is a tongue in cheek frieNDA contract spells out this concept a little more clearly.

give more than you receive

Don't be a leech. Create more value than you capture.
MakerBiz doesn't work if people don't share what they learned from their successes and their failures.

No pitching

While nearly all MakerBiz members are involved in startups, MakerBiz is designed to be a safe place for members to share ideas, not a place for you to pitch your startup or find your next investor. Pitches are not allowed at MakerBiz.

do something physical

MakerBiz is a group of people who actually make physical products. While we do a lot of thinking and talking about making things, we don't stop there. You need to bring your ideas into physical reality.

Real names

On the mailing list we ask that you don't use a handle - please use your legal name.

Harassment

You’ve probably noticed that there are events and groups out there that have problems with harassment and inappropriate behavior. That’s not what MakerBiz is about. MakerBiz is an incredible group of adults who take care of each other and make sure everyone is having a safe, comfortable and harassment-free experience. Here is a not-exhaustive list of behaviors that we do not tolerate:
  • Jokes or offensive comments about sex/sexuality/race/religion/body size
  • Showing porn to others
  • Touching people uninvited
  • Continuing to interact someone after they’ve asked you to stop.
Anyone violating this policy will be immediately removed from MakerBiz and banned from the mailing list and all future events.

If someone is making you or anyone else at MakerBiz uncomfortable, please tell Chris or Sacha immediately. All members are responsible for keeping MakerBiz safe, inclusive and awesome.
